The Safety Razor

King Camp Gillette

While shaving one morning King Camp Gillette called his wife into the bathroom. He told her that he had just thought of an invention that would make them both very rich and change the way that men shaved all over the world. He was right.

King Camp Gillette an American travelling salesman patented his safety razor in 1904. He met William Painter, the inventor of the modern bottle-cap. Painter had suggested to Gillette that he invent a product that the consumer could use , throw away and buy again.

The invention was not an immediate success, men preferred to use the more dangerous open to razors until after 1906. By then the blade had been improved by William Nickerson.
