The Desk Tidy Project

Once the student has created the m.d.f pattern the vacuum forming process can take place. It is very important to ensure that there is an air tight seal . If there is a gap the polystyrene will not form tightly around the pattern. Once the air has been sucked from underneath the pattern it is the atmospheric pressure pressing down on top of the plastic that gives the shape and definition. In this case we have a successful vacuum form.
This Industrial process is used extensively to produce lots of household items.
